Maria has a keen eye for antique chairs and asked for a total refurbishment on this lovely French example.
A French chair like this would typically have its seat completed first, with spring wire fitted in place straight on top – in place of tack rails. However, in this instance, the decision was made to restore the original back because there would be better access completing that first.
The original fillings would typically be discarded, however, it was in great shape and with conservation being an ever-growing concern, the challenge to restore it was undertaken. All the hessian and stitching was methodically removed and replaced using a combination of blind + top-stitching to sculpt everything back into good shape. View some process photos here on Instagram.
The midnight shade of blue Omega Velvet from Linwood lends such a rich, classic finish, and it’s stain resistant!
